Holding on to Jah
The much-anticipated documentary film on the history of the Rastafari
movement, Jamaica and Reggae music was met with great success
in 2010, appearing at film festivals in Turkey, Holland, Finland, Australia,
Washington DC, and Israel. It is a unique story of redemption and true
liberation from the bonds of colonialism and racial injustice. The film is
still in it's pre-release, but look for it at special screenings at Reggae
festivals in Summer 2011, while director Roger Hall and Producer Harrison
Stafford are finalizing the licensing for the film's commercial release.
Roger has put together another great piece of history---Don Carlos reflects on
his friend Gregory Isaacs, who had influenced Don greatly as a kid growing
up in Kingston. Gregory passed away just this last October; he was a great
talent and a pioneer of the lovers rock sound.
The whole Groundation misses him and wish his family the best
in 2011...enjoy the clip!

and electronic music.

Longtime Groundation Colleague Passes Away
We wish to express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of our longtime friend and colleague Patrick Colleony, who passed away on new years day.
Patrick basically brought Groundation to Europe, helping Hebron Gate first get released there back in 2002. Without Patrick's time and energy Groundation would not be where we are today and he was also a close friend to many of us in the group. We are forever in debt to his vestige and now to his family moving forward.
21.12.09
Stephanie Wallace to Leave Groundation
Stephanie Wallace, who has been with Groundation since February 2009 and appears on the Here I Am album, will be leaving the group effective at the beginning of 2010.
We would like to thank Stephanie for all of her hard work, professionalism and positive energy she provided us this past year. We are certain that her ongoing solo career will flourish and expand. We wish her and her family the best moving forward and will always count them as part of the Groundation crew.
Best of luck Stephanie!

Here I Am World Tour Complete
After five months, over a hundred shows and 50,000+ miles traveled, the 2009 Here I Am World Tour has come to an end. We thank each one of you that came out to support the music. Groundation is only what our fans allow us to become, and as our community continues to grow, so to does the potential for change our union creates.
18.11.09
Poland/Germany
I received a message from Harrison the other day where he spoke of how Groundation had just played a huge show in Wroclaw, Poland. The venue Groundation played in was once used by the Nazis for their rallys and in fact Hitler himself had spoken there on many occasions, not more than 70 years ago. In fact, words from Hitler's speeches were literally etched in stone on the walls of the venue.
It really is an amazing thing to think how much has changed in such a short amount of time. What would have been Hitler's reaction had someone (one of Goebbels' psychics perhaps) informed the fuhrer that within one lifetime, in the same place where he spewed his invective, that a band of Groundation's background would fill that very hall with the focus of positive communion vibrations?
Further revealing the irresistible forces of change, the land of Germany now is one of the biggest markets in the world for Reggae music, hosting maybe the largest Reggae festival in the world every year, The Summerjam Festival. In fact, all of Groundation's shows in Poland and Germany so far have been filled with some of the most excited and positive fans yet on this European tour (photos from Koln here).
It is often said at a Groundation concert that the change we seek is just around the corner. Sometimes in our travels these changes are revealed to us in powerfully visceral ways.
This is why we continue to travel the world and this is why music truly is the most high.

European Tour News
First we would like to thank all of those people who have already come out to support our ongoing European leg of the Here I Am World Tour. With sell out shows in Brussels, Lyon and Le Mans it is clear we are back in Groundation territory.
A couple of news items for this tour.....our show in Bale, Switzerland on November 12 has been canceled, but we have picked up another show in Switzerland, on November 13 at the Metropop Festival in Lausanne. See the live page for the comeplete show listing.
Also, we are fortunate enough to have opening for us on this tour legendary roots artist Pablo Moses, familiar to Groundation fans for his appearances on the Upon the Bridge and Here I Am albums. Up and coming German reggae artist Sebastian Strum is also opening up on many of these dates. We appreciate their support and look forward to the shows....thank you all for supporting conscious music.
The change we all seek is near.

US Tour Complete
The US installment of the Here I Am World Tour has officially come to a close. This six week tour took us from the Outside Lands in San Francisco in late August, onto New Orleans and Austin, Florida, Asheville, D.C., New York, Boston, back through the midwest with stops in Chicago and Minneapolis, through the Rockies in Colorado, ending back in California, on our Western Shores.
More than 12,000 miles and 33 shows later, we have been fortunate to accomplish something fairly remarkable. There are very few independent bands today that attempt such a tour. If it were easy more people would certainly do it. We accept this challenge and are grateful for the opportunity. Thank you to all who came out and supported us along the way. Your energy is what makes this possible and so worthwhile.
We now take 12 days to re-charge, spend time with family and friends and prepare ourselves for the final chapter of the Here I Am World Tour trilogy: 4 weeks touring once again throughout Europe.
We look forward to more music...

Groundation has a long way to go here in the United States, as our mission is not just to successfully tour and play music, but to forward a consciousness aimed at a true shift in the collective thought of a society. Our society.

Athens Burns, Again...
Our thoughts are with our many friends in Greece, and specifically the greater Athens area, aswildfires have destroyed tens of thousands of acres of forest and whole communities have had to be evacuated just outside of the capital.
If we learned one thing in our time there, it is that the Greek people know how to rally together andfight. In this we are confident that the Athens people will get the fires under control and keep their communities safe.

Thank You...
to all of our friends, family and fans who came out to support us on our 9th Annual Robert Nesta Marley Tribute Tour. A very special thank you to, legends in their own right, Will Bernard and Leroy "Horsemouth" Wallace for making this the most successful Bob Tribute Tour yet. Horsemouth, you are the man.
Some may wonder why a band like Groundation takes a month out of each year to pay homage to the music and legacy of Bob Marley. In our consumeristic world, you can see Bob's image and imprint everywhere...almost to the point of diluting the intensity of Marley's truly revolutionary life. We choose to play this music because the lessons have yet to be learned, the conscious shift to the positive that our world so desperately needs, and that Marley foretold, has yet to happen. And, until this happens, Marley's music must be played, be heard, be felt.
23.2.09

Our thoughts and prayers...
...go out to Phillip Merchant, former bass player for Midnite (2000-2005), who recently took up that role for Bambu Station & The DAPP Band. He is currently in critical condition in a V.I. hospital recovering from gunshot wounds.
Let this be a reminder that even in the conscious music community violence is a real issue. Too many of Reggae's greatest have been taken from the world due to senseless violence. Phil, you are in our thoughts...get well soon.

Groundation World Tour continues...
Despite a few bumps in the road, Groundation continues with its ongoing World Tour with stops in the UK, Poland and Germany; finally wrapping things up in Groundation's "home away from home" with five big shows in France. Let it be known, no matter where one goes in the world there will be those who see conscious people playing conscious music as a threat. Without resistance how would we know if we're progressing?
A special thank you is in order for all the fans and friends that waited patiently for years for Groundation's first forray into the Holy Land. Two over the top, sold out shows later Groundation's return to Israel seems certain.
Israel, like everywhere else, is home to many conscious indiviudals committed to peace and equality for everyone in their region and beyond. Too often these people's voices are not heard over the prepetual drone of conflict. Groundation's music at its best unites these people, and other like-minded communities, the world over. You can stay connected with Groundation fans from all corners of this world on the Groundation Forum.
Freedom taking over...
