Only 24 days remain to raise the funds needed to release the documentary film "Holding On To Jah" on DVD and for online streaming and downloading in early 2015. The film is the story of roots Reggae music and the Rastafari Movement as told by the singer and musicians who brought it to the world. "Holding On To Jah" is 97 minutes long and features dynamic and powerful cinematography.
"Holding On To Jah was so very beautiful. The film comes forth with tremendous, respect, trust, love, and commitment to truth and transcendent spirituality. Cinematically every creative aspect shines in full effect. There are editorial passages and hallucinatory stylistic techniques that I've never seen before. I watched it, fell in love with it, and delighted to a second viewing."
Jonathan Demme, Academy Award Winning Director of "Philadelphia" and "Silence Of The Lambs"
"Holding On To Jah" was produced by Groundation lead singer Harrison Stafford with film crews in Jamaica from 1999-2011. Harrison sat and interviewed legendary harmony groups like Israel Vibration, The Congos, Culture, The Abyssinians, and Count Ossie's Mystic Revelation of Rastafari and singers like Don Carlos, Sugar Minott, IJahman Levi, and Winston McAnuff.
The film's producers have put in more than $40,000 USD of their own money and now need $25,000 USD more to secure the licensing of the songs used in the film. Titles from Peter Tosh, Burning Spear, Bob Marley, Joe Higgs, Toots and the Maytals, and the Skatalites (34 classic reggae recordings total). "Holding On To Jah" cannot be released legally without these publishing and master recording rights...WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Groundation will be making their yearly stop through California hitting cities like Santa Ana, Solana Beach, Santa Cruz, and San Luis Obispo as well as rare stops through Las Vegas, Madison, Champaign, St. Louis, and Chicago; also a special appearance at this year's Shangri-la Festival. Check out this short video from singer Harrison Stafford announcing the shows and sharing a message about Reggae music and the mission to unite the world.
